I was recently asked in a Clubhouse room what were some of my favorite wine picks. The answer undoubtedly included some of my favorite wines from where I live – California. And one of those vineyards that I adore and highly recommended in that chat room were the Sangiacomo wines from Sonoma.
To give you some context – The Sangiacomo family are third-generation farmers in Sonoma with their first grapevines planted in 1969. Incredible isn’t it? Their estate vineyards expand in Carneros, Napa and along the Sonoma Coast and their wines reflect this very complexity yet freshness in their notes. In fact, they farm over 1600 acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in fifteen different vineyards.
So of course as a wine enthusiast, I had to try their wines that were deeply rooted in culture and tradition. And I won’t lie – I am obsessed.
Kaushik and I often do wine tastings together and then compare notes. Surprisingly we both agreed that some of our favorite vintage were from Sangiacomo (out of many) and those included:
- 2018 Roberts Road Vineyard Chardonnay
- 2018 & 2017 Roberts Road Vineyard Pinot Noir
- 2017 Oakview Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
We also got lucky to try Sangiacomo’s limited batch of the 2019 Roberts Road Vineyard Vin Gris of Pinot Noir Rosé which we totally savored on our recent date night. The rose notes were exquisite. Imagine rose petals, melon and strawberries. The wine was crisp and dry and went perfectly with our cheese plate that we whipped up that day.
Let me take a moment to specifically describe one of the vintage which both Kaushik and I listed as our favorite – the delectable 2018 Roberts Road Vineyard Pinot Noir. With a hint of oak on the nose and a beautiful blend of floral and fruity notes especially of cherry and orange, this vintage is complex yet delicately refined. The aromas were a delight to the nose with a whiff of spices that included cloves, cinnamon, etc.
We loved the 2017 vintage as well and are planning to pair one of them with roasted chicken and potatoes which we are making this week for our weekend dinner.
So if you are looking for an amazing bottle of Pinot or Chardonnay, I highly recommend the wines from Sangiacomo. You can purchase them here. It’s perfect for a dinner, date night or even a girls day in.
