Yes I do believe in resolutions, may be not so much in the timing. For me, New Years is just an excuse to give a fresh start and perspective to things. I believe, it is better to have some plan than none at all. At least, it makes you stop, think and provides a direction. Execution is the next step and that is a very different ball game.
So among the few resolutions I have made or as I like to call it, my game plan for 2016, one of it is to blog more and provide you interesting reads that you can use in your day to day life. It could be in the sphere of image consulting, fashion or like so many of you have requested – in makeup and beauty. So I start my first blog post of the year 2016, sharing with you my beauty routine and favourite makeup products.
I have always stressed how important it is to go as natural as you can when it comes to the hair and skin. But we all understand that makeup is part of almost every girl’s life and is pretty unavoidable. What you can do however, is to use good products and replace them from time to time as every beauty product has an expiry.
- Neutrogena Skin Primer and Too Faced Lip Primer
If there is one thing I cannot emphasise enough when it comes to your makeup routine is to use a primer. Not only does it help your makeup stay longer, it also protects your skin. I use primer both on my lips and face. For my face, I trust Neutrogena products. Their primer helps to smoothen out my skin quite well. Alternatively, I also use ‘Benefits Pore Professional Primer’ too. It is great if you have to cover large pores. For my lips, I use the ‘ Too Faced Lip Insurance ‘ that helps to bring out my lip colour.
2. Good quality Kabuki Brushes and The Beauty Blender
Hands are useful when you are in a hurry but if you want clean flawless complexion, invest in some good brushes. For basic use, 3 brushes can suffice- A blending brush which is great to spread your foundation or any liquid or cream products, a blusher, to apply powder bronzers or blush and a thin brush for the eyebrow or eyeshadow.
I personally love the beauty blender. It is tad expensive but gives a smooth finish and lasts as well. What is most important with brushes is that you clean them regularly. I try to clean my brushes at least twice a week.
3. Foundation – Makeup Forever Ultra HD
Foundation is one product you need to be very careful about else you could end up looking like a ghost. Try a couple of brands to see which one suits your skin and which shade works for you. I have tried quite a bit of foundation and have always loved the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD. It provides a clear coverage for my warm skin tone and I’ve never had breakouts with them
- Foundation Shade : 125- Y315, it is a golden beige shade.
4. Brows – Urban Decay Brow Kit
I have a tendency to change products every now and then, but if there is one product that I have stuck to over years is my eyebrow kit by Urban Decay. I was introduced to it by a friend and makeup artist during a shoot and there was no turning back after. It is a complete kit with tweezer and a brush. The shade works very well to darken my light black eyebrow.
5. Eye – Lakme Eyeconic Kohl/ Eye Liner
I am sure all of you have that one product you can’t do without even when you have tons of alternative. Mine is this kohl roll-on pencil which I order from India whenever I get a chance. I line the below of my eye with it and not only is it dark but smudge free and lasts pretty long. I need at least 4-5 of it stocked up in my drawer in case I lose any of them. Most of them time I prefer not to have makeup on except for this kohl pencil on my eye.
6. Sephora Highlighter/ Bronzer and LA Girl Concealer
I have many bronzers and concealers that I like but the Sephora Highlighter and Bronzer pen is perfect as a to-go. I carry it with me every where as it serves dual purpose. I also love the LA Girl concealer as it is great for dark circles. Sometimes when I don’t have a bronzer with me, I just use a darker foundation for contouring like the Loreal Infallible Matte Foundation in a darker shade.
- LA Girl – Pure Beige
- Sephora Bronzer/ Highlighter – Light to Medium shade
7. Setting Powder – Mac Studio Fix
This is another product I have been using for years. After the make up is applied, don’t forget to use a setting powder to keep your make up in place. Mac Studio Fix works both as a powder foundation and setting powder. I however, only use it as a setting product as powder foundations don’t suit my face and cause breakouts. I prefer liquids.
- Mac Studio Fix Shade : NC-40
8.Bronzer/ Blush – Too Faced Soul Mates
I love products that serve more than one purpose and the below is one of them. Too Faced Soul Mates is my favourite on the go product as its peachy blush and milk chocolate bronzer works so well with my face. Use a contour brush to apply them.
- Shade : Carrie and Big
9. Blush – Mac Blush Powder
Another favourite blush of mine is the Mac blush powder in Peachykeen. This was recommended to me by my sister who is a fashion student and beauty blogger herself. It is great for most skin tones but works best with medium- dark.
For fairer skin, opt for a more pink than peach shade.
- Shade : Peachykeen
