Are you looking for ideas to keep yourself busy during a lockdown?
Being a business owner myself, I usually work from home and have a fixed routine. However staying in for 3 weeks at a stretch has been challenging. So here are a few ways to help you keep you occupied at home:
Reading books
I used to be a voracious reader as a child. However growing up and getting busy in the hustle bustle of things, reduced my reading time massively. So I took this extra time to push myself to start reading again, even if it was a couple pages a day.
Currently I am reading “Building a Storybrand” by Donald Miller. It’s an amazing book that breaks down how to build an effective brand through storytelling. If you have any book recommendations, let me know in the comments below.

Binge Watching TV Shows
Kaushik and I love watching different kinds of tv shows so this is the perfect time to catch up on show thats have been on our list. We binged watch Royal Pains recently which is about a doctor who works as a medical concierge is in a Hamptons. Definitely recommend it for easy watching. However if you are looking for something to blow your mind, consider watching the documentary – Tiger King. I won’t reveal the details but it’s bizarre and interesting at the same time.
Video Chatting With Friends And Family
A lot of my family and friends live in Asia so this has given me a lot of time to catch up with them or even do happy hour over Skype or Zoom with my friends. It’s been really nice to see how this time has given us an opportunity to move beyond just texting and connect with everyone real time through phone calls or video chats
Cooking Your Favorite Dishes
I personally love to cook. It’s very therapeutic for me. But I hate cooking for myself. Since my husband has been working from home, this gives me an incentive to whip up something new and experiment on him. I also usually don’t bake as I am more comfortable cooking dishes but this has given me some time to try and improve my baking skills.
Doing A Home Workout
On a usual day, I would be going for a boxing or dancing class. I find it really hard to be self motivated to workout. So I need a community to push me to keep fit. When the shelter in place came about, this was my biggest challenge but seeing how so many fitness studios have put up online classes, it’s given me some motivation to workout using the online videos. And it’s really helped.

Playing Puzzles and Games
One of my favorite things to be doing right now is engaging in games, whether it’s playing a game of scrabble with my husband, playing online words games like Word with Friends, Word Nut or even completing a jigsaw puzzle.
Pro Tip: If you want to play scrabble with friends online, download Wordfeud and invite them to battle.
Doing Happy Hour at Home.
Since we haven’t been able to go out, Kaushik and I are doing “Happy Hour” at home. We usually open a bottle of wine or whip up a cocktail, call our friends and have a drink with them online. It’s actually been really fun to do that. This has also given us a chance to open a few wine bottles that we haven’t had a chance to try.
Speaking of wine, Kaushik and I got to try some delectable wine by Gary Farrell a few weeks ago. Gary Farrell recently launched their Russian River Blue Label. This is a single vineyard wine label – both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. We adored the notes in it. They were fruity, smooth and very easy on the palate.

Since then, due to the shelter in place, a lot of local business have been affected as they have had to shut down. This includes the local vineyards that have closed their tasting rooms and restaurants that have had to stop taking reservations.
However, you can still support them by ordering online or doing a takeout.
Gary Farrell like a lot of other wineries is still shipping. So if you run out of wine, instead of ordering from super markets, support your local winery by ordering directly from them.
If you are interested in wine from Gary Farrell, you can get your favorite bottle or even bottles through their website, from their Private Client Liasion or via email. Plus, with the code “GETBLUE”, you can get a $20 flat rate shipping on 3 bottles or more through April 15th.
I’m definitely ordering a crate.

So go ahead and support your local business and also tell me how are you guys keeping busy during this lockdown?
