If you are struggling with dry scalp or hair fall, then these are my must have hair products.

As a lot of you may know, I recently moved from Downtown to the Bay area. The Bay Area is much colder and dryer. Plus the water is harsher. As a result, I started noticing that my hair was falling more than usual and my scalp was super dry.

So after much trial and error, I found out the best products that worked for me. Of course, each individual’s hair is different from the other, but these are some OTC products that I found were super helpful. If you do find you have issues that are not being treated through regular products, it’s best to consult a dermatologist.

So here are some of my MUST HAVE hair care products:

Eliminate harsh water with a water shower filter

Harsh minerals in the water can damage the hair from the root. So when I found this super affordable yet highly rated water filter – AquaBliss High Output Revitalizing Shower Filter – that can be easily installed in most shower heads, I immediately bought it. And, I have to say it was a game changer.

Within a week of use itself, I noticed a huge change in the texture of my hair. My scalp was less dry and hair was falling less.

My hair has a tendency to get tangled since it’s super fine. Therefore I have to be super picky of the shampoo I use. I have always used Marc Anthony’s sulfate free shampoo, however I recently switched to Olaplex and have been in love with it. I wonder why, I didn’t know about this product earlier. The Olaplex shampoo is free of sulfates, parabens, and phthalates and makes the hair super soft.

The olaplex collection comes in a series. I like to use the following for my haircare:

I start with the hair perfector which is like a pre-condition. You apply to your damp hair for a while before shampoo. I then use the shampoo, conditioner, followerd by a leave-in conditioner.

Detox that hair

When I find myself using too many hair products, I like to indulge in a bit of hair detox by using one of my most favorite shampoo by  OUAI detox shampoo. It’s always my go-to whenever I plan to wash my hair after heavy styling. This detox shampoo cleanses without stripping and also removes the excess deposit of hair styling products adding softness and shine to the hair.

This product is free of sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehyde, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, and triclocarban. A go-to for all those looking for a cruelty-free and gluten-free product.

Deep Condition Your Hair

If you have hair like mine, that gets dry and frizzy easily, then I would 100% recommend using a deep conditioner like that of  Amika Hair Conditioner .

This product has been a personal favorite for a very long time as this is vegan, paraben-free and, it gives my hair they hydration it needs without making it feel heavy. Plus Amika’s products are amazing if you have colored hair as it helps to protect the color. I usually apply this hair after shampoo for 30 minutes and then wash it off.

Leave- In Conditioner

Complete hair care is not just a great shampoo and a conditioner; it is about after wash care too. I usually keep my hair loose most of the time and, so for me, it is extremely important to take care of my hair even after the wash care. Olaplex Bond Smoother is that one product that keeps my hair going even after 72 hours of my wash. It’s a product I mentioned above as well but I wanted to stress on it as it’s super helpful to reduce frizziness.

I also love the fact that the cream helps to protect the hair before blow drying as well.

Bring on the shine

If you are someone who loves that extra shine finish on your hair still keeping it natural, Color Wow Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray is a perfect choice. I often use this to give my hair some spark when it looks a bit dull, esp if I have gone a day or two without washing it. Just a few sprays and you will notice the difference.

Treat that scalp dryness

Another product I love to soothe dry scalp and any itchiness is the Living Proof Dry Scalp Treatment . This product is rich in hydration and, Vitamin B3 which helps the flaky scalp relieve instantly from the itchiness or redness. I have long hair and, most of the time I have to take extra care to make sure that my scalp is not dry and flaky as it causes me to loose hair. This is a very light serum so you can easily put it and go out.

When I first moved to the Bay Area, my hair was super dry and I wished like our face, there would be a mask for the hair that we could apply and leave overnight. Honestly, I had a hard time finding a good overnight hair mask.
